Sarah Ludford was elected to the European Parliament as MEP for London in 1999. She is the Liberal Democrat European spokeswoman on justice & human rights and a leading member of the European Parliament’s civil liberties, justice & home affairs committee and human rights sub-committee. She is a specialist in European measures to combat crime, uphold civil liberties, control borders, offer asylum and manage migration. Sarah campaigns hard for a cleaner environment in London that meets the EU’s strict standards on air and water quality. She helped successfully oppose the Heathrow 3rd runway and any increase in flights at London City airport. Sarah is vice chair of the European Parliament delegation for relations with the US, a member of the delegation to the Western Balkans and vice-president of Liberal Democrat Friends of Israel.
