Why Must Moms Feel the Pressure to Have Abs of Steel?

There are already so many pressures placed upon women to look a certain way and be a certain way as moms, that a photo and message like this can trigger negative thoughts and behaviors in non-model moms.

Photos of "No Excuses" Fit Moms: Fat-Shaming or Inspiring?

I get the argument from both sides: the fit moms want to show what they've accomplished and inspire other moms that they can look the same way, and some women feel that by doing that, the women are saying out-of-shape moms are just making excuses.

How Getting Naked Really Did Make Me Feel Empowered

Over the years since I left the adult industry, I have hidden my body away. I covered up. I got more conservative as befits a mother, or so I thought. And I lost some of my sense of self. I lost some sense of myself as a beautiful, sexual woman. I lost connection to a certain part of myself.

Take Back the Streets: Shut Down the Harassers

Instead of being quiet and saying nothing in return, which was how I handled the situations out of fear, women should tell the harassers that what they're doing is wrong. Maybe if these men hear it enough times, they'll get the hint; things will begin to change. And young women won't grow up with a twisted sense of where their value lies.

Emilia Clarke Isn't Allowed Cream or Sugar in Her Tea and Why This Worries Me

There's nothing wrong with wanting to look good. According to her, she's "been spending all day, every day, in weapons training... shooting guns, weightlifting, kick-boxing..." This all sounds like she's being really healthy, but with all that expenditure of energy, someone is still telling her she is not allowed to put sugar in her tea?

Celebrating Women's Voices and Bodies

It's imperative to hear what the youth, who are experiencing modern culture upfront and loud make of it, but it's also important to hear the balance and hindsight of our older voices.

An Open Letter to Victoria's Secret

Ashley Clawson had just spent $150 in a Victoria's Secret when she asked an employee if she could nurse her son Beckett in a changing room. She was instructed to go out back into an alleyway where no one would see her.

Kim Kardashian Perpetuates the Beauty Myth

Kim Kardashian has never been known for being modest. Before her pregnancy, the reality television star loved to flaunt her curves, not to mention that she began her career in a porn film (not that there's anything wrong with that).

What Hope Really Looks Like on a Magazine Cover

Can media represent us all? Can we find the real beauty that is a woman, that is a human being and celebrate her? Yes, we can. If we make the choice to expand our definition of beauty. If we as women say, we want to see the reality and not just the Photoshop.

Why Kim Kardashian's Butt Is None of Our Business

By now we've all probably seen Kim Kardashian's Instagrammed butt... The whole issue lies in what people consider to be appropriate behavior for a mother, especially a new mother. We are supposed to be off nursing our baby, feeding our baby, shopping for our baby, loving our baby. That is all. How dare we wish to express ourselves as women? And especially as sexy women!

Why Do Strippers Need Forgiveness?

If Strip Church is about helping strippers who are looking to get out of the business, well then, bravo. But if it's also about implying that they need to be forgiven for their pasts, it feels like they're layering on their own belief system and values on these women.

The Sun's Page 3 Cheesecake Needs a Side of Beefcake

I'm sure there are lots of ways to sell more newspapers. But a newspaper is supposed to provide "news," not topless women. I am not, like many of the No More Page 3 campaigners, against the models or glamour modeling in general, I'm just against these types of photos appearing in a daily newspaper.

Angelina Jolie as Inspiration

I'm never influenced by celebrities. I would never consider going on a certain type of diet because someone famous did. But today I stand corrected. Today I feel moved enough to listen to a celebrity. To be influenced by her choices and her suggestions.
