Simon Hodgkinson

Founder of Smart Earth Network. Environmentalist and technologist, striving to improve the effectiveness of conservation

Simon worked for 15 years as an environmental consultant and was a founder of Deloitte Consulting’s UK sustainability practice in the 1990s. After a career switch he became a founder of Deloitte’s US West Coast Telecom’s Practice and has also since worked in telecoms for 15 years. In 2013-14 Simon acted as lead consultant for the development and launch of the Green List of Protected Areas for the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. The Green List aims to identify and celebrate successful biodiversity conservation. Its launch involved working with leading conservationists on all continents, and the work demonstrated that today we have few effective tools to monitor and evaluate the success of our biodiversity conservation efforts. It is this combined experience of technology and environmental experience which has led Simon to focus on the opportunity presented by the Internet of Things revolution to transform our capacity to act as stewards of our planet.
