Sophie Eggleton

Music and fashion editor, regularly chats to creative folk on camera and is likely to over-share

After gaining First Class Honours in Fine Art and exhibiting multi screen installation work in London and Southampton, Sophie went on to gain experience within the fashion teams of Eve, Glamour, Elle, First and Vogue - including attending shoots with Kylie Minogue and Alexa Chung. In pursuit of combining a love for fashion and creating art, she went to Alexander McQueen in the role of an artwork assistant, working on print and embroidery designs for the A/W 08/09 collection. It was only at drinks arranged to celebrate the life of Lee that Sophie discovered that one of her major pieces had been used on a gown in the Pre-Fall 2010 collection. The dress was selected by Lee for Cate Blanchett’s red carpet appearance at the Cannes premier of Robin Hood.

A return to styling and assisting followed, working with various publications and brands including NME, Easy Living, 125 and Cheer Up Clothing. With unisex clothing brand Cheer Up Clothing she has had the opportunity to get more stuck in - helping to arrange and style campaign and look-book shoots and heading up the T-Room acoustic sessions. This lead to more PR and consulting work within fashion and music.

At the beginning of 2013 she launched a brand new online show called ‘The Sleeve’ - half hour episodes looking at when/where music collides with fashion Art. The shows covers merchandise, music style, album artwork, tattoos, trends, art inspired by music, clothing brands founded by musicians and more. So far the series has featured interviews with Zane Lowe, Papa Roach, Dan Baldwin, Megan Massacre, Huey Morgan, Ami James, Paris (Mylo Xyloto artist), Young Guns, Bring Me The Horizon and many more.

Since University Sophie has also been working as a freelance journalist writing for various publication and websites including The Guardian, Guestlist, Open, Elmbridge, Stylebible, Sketchbook, Beauty Magazine, WhisperMag, Gunpowder, Amelia’s and Disappear Here.
She is currently Music and Fashion Editor of Culture Compass, the majority of the content being in the form of video interviews. On a freelance basis she also contributes to Hit The Floor’s YouTube Interview Channel.

Last year as the role of official video interviewer for Reading and Leeds Festival she was required to interview ten acts on the run up to the event and twenty five over the weekend, including Bastille, The Vaccines, Kasabian, The Cribs, Kaiser Chiefs, Justice and Alt J. For the last two years she has also been covering various music events as a blogger and interviewer for Relentless Energy Drink - this included presenting the backstage coverage of The Kerrang! Awards 2013. Recently she presented Britain’s Top Real Role Model campaign, interviewing ten inspiring entrepreneurs for Amway’s initiative.

Having already built up an impressive interview CV featuring Jessie J, Jason Newsted (Metallica), Mark Hoppus (Blink 182), Biffy Clyro, Fall Out Boy, Sub Focus, Chase and Status, Gary Numan, Julie Delpy, The Maccabees and Patrick Grant.... she’s hoping 2014 will bring many more exciting opportunities to chat.
