Sophie Murray

Award-winning Head of Nutrition and Hydration for Sunrise Senior Living UK and Gracewell Healthcare

Sophie Murray began her career as a qualified Mental Health Nurse, working with individuals who had complex enduring mental health conditions. From there, she took a job with a large community care provider, providing training services including NVQ assessing. She used this training experience to design and lead a number of training packages within the care sector and also worked as an Operations Manager, overseeing three care homes. Her passion for food and interest in nutrition then inspired her not only to gain a degree in Nutritional Medicine but also open a restaurant at the same time. However, she ultimately knew she wanted to work within the care industry and combined her skills to become Head of Nutrition, overseeing 15 care homes. In 2013 she won the NACC National Hydration Award, a result of working closely with doctors and research scientists to raise awareness and provide staff training on matters of hydration. She has also worked alongside celebrity chef Rosemary Shrager, to raise the profile of food provision in the care sector Sophie joined Sunrise Senior Living UK as Head of Nutrition and Hydration in November 2014, utilising her skills across a larger provider of care. Food and nutrition are a priority for Sunrise and her role is to supplement the already fantastic dining service with training, education and support.
