My research focuses on Russian history and culture, with an emphasis on local identities, heritage politics, and the cultural memory of the Soviet past in twenty-first century Russia. I have published widely on topics ranging from the patriotic re-branding of the Russian regions to the 'remaking' of Soviet-era comedies in contemporary Russian cinema. I am currently working on a project focusing on the transnational connections between the Donbas and South Wales.
