It's that rosy time of the year again. Shops are flooded with cutesie cards and fluffy bears. Teens are hysterically plotting who will get a card from whom (or not from whom in my case). Us adults let out a groan - either we feel obliged to do the token something or we boycott as a marketing ploy devised by Hallmark.
I actually think we can choose our age. We can be as childlike as we want or as 'grown up'. We can play whatever side of us we want to. Society has conditioned us to think if we are young we are free and when we get old we become tied down.
I am certainly not cured of my fear of being tied down. But I know now that fantasising about a life that 'could' be means you miss out on the life you have. Head in the clouds is fine but feet on the ground is better.
