Something Old, Something News

The BBC is one of the few public services in the whole world that works pretty much as it ought to and is wildly popular for it (the odd rabid right wing commentator or tycoon with vested interests notwithstanding). So it's disappointing their top brass think hawking off TVC is a good idea. If it's changing stuff for change's sake they want, I have a suggestion that's much less damaging: a new BBC News theme.

With the exception of Christmas, general elections and Eurovision, summer holidays are the most wonderful time of the year. And as is usually the case, there's nothing that underlines the "we are having a good time" vibe better than television. At one point, summer morning television was a big deal. But now, nobody seems arsed.

As a trivia fiend of some renown, I look forward to new series of quiz shows at the best of times, but on Saturday night waiting for the second series of BBC One's Secret Fortune to start I was genuinely excited. Because I wrote questions for it.
