The great thing about the Olympics is how much it broadens your sporting horizons. The downside however is even though you end up watching a load of sports you regularly wouldn't, they don't always make a whole lot of sense, even after a fortnight of watching them. Across the pond, Ireland too is searching its soul for what it means to be young and Irish, and the charge is being led from the front.

I sat this weekend beaming with pride at the Donegal's Youth Council's celebration evening. Not just for their achievements, but for the love and self-worth and common purpose they provided each other with by serving the public and bettering their community. As a nation, Ireland needs to do so much more of that.
