Fast forward to July 2012 and with only eight days to go until Show Day I am at a stage where I am frantically trying not to mess up my steps, stay in the moment and not get physically violent with fellow performers who fail to understand the basic concept of a crocodile line.

There comes a point in every Olympic volunteer's life when you just can't help wondering precisely what mood elevator Gene Kelly was on when he wholeheartedly belted out his signature Singing in the Rain whilst happily splashing through puddle after puddle.

As I was looking around the council chamber in Camden I couldn't help but think of Show Day, and I thought maybe a citizenship ceremony is nothing but an opening show for what hopefully turns out to be a happy and prosperous life in a new country.

In the interest of helping out my fellow performers, I got to thinking about alternative uses for our various Olympic outfits. With only hours to go until showtime and that question becoming too pressing, here are my top-five suggestions...
