Ben Atkinson-Willes founded Active Minds in 2009 after personal experience with his grandfather highlighted the lack of suitable activities for people who, like him, were living with dementia. his meant families and carers would usually resort to children’s games that were often too difficult and extremely patronising.

Working closely with St Georges Hospital and Kingston University Active Minds began to develop its first range of jigsaw puzzles designed specifically for people with dementia. These thoughtfully designed puzzles allowed users of all abilities complete them without assistance. Helping to stimulate conversation as well as giving a valuable sense of achievement and pride. With over 800,000 people in the UK living with dementia the response from the care community was huge.

Now selling across Europe and North America with very positive feedback. Users include private individuals as well as large organisations such as the NHS and Alzheimer’s Society.

Since its launch in 2009 Active Minds has continued to develop new and innovative products in response to the growing demand for its activity resources. As well as beginning to stock a few other carefully selected products that have also been developed for people with dementia.
