On a Friday morning, after already enjoying two days in Edinburgh, we headed to The Indigo hotel, centrally located in the New Town area right near Calton Hill and the Edinburgh Playhouse, where we were looking forward to staying for the night.
Indigo is a boutique chain of hotels with properties around the world, with no two hotels the same and each designed completely uniquely. Situated in an A listed 18th Century building, the Edinburgh hotel looked pleasant from the outside with steps up to the entrance with big blue plant pots either side of the front door. The reception was cosily furnished like a living room with tartan armchairs, soft velvet sofas, decorative lamps, plants and coffee tables. We were greeted by a very friendly lady on reception who checked us in smoothly and stored our bags for us since we were checking in early and our room wasn't ready.
When we arrived back at the hotel later that day we were able to pick our keys up right away and were informed our bags had already been taken to our room. Situated on the third floor, our room was only a few strides from the lift and we were given a Superior King Bedroom. The room was decorated in a really modern way in bright oranges and warm greys, with two wallpapered feature walls at either end of the room. There was a large bed in the middle with a TV at the bottom of the bed and a chaise longue, desk, wardrobe and fridge at the bottom of the room. The bathroom was by the door and was spacious featuring a big rainfall shower and complimentary toiletries.
It was a very trendy and fun room but despite being a Superior King, the bedroom was quite cosy in size and there wasn't anywhere to really put your luggage other than on the luggage holder at the side of the room, which got in the way a little with two people in the room.
We had dinner booked that evening so enjoyed a couple of hours relaxing on the bed in the room drinking tea and watching TV, which I liked having right at the end of the bed! The fridge in the room was well stocked with chocolate, crisps, biscuits, fresh milk and soft drinks and it was all complimentary, which I thought was a really nice touch.
When we arrived back later that evening after dinner, we were concerned we might find the traffic noisy, since our room faced the front of the hotel and the road, but we both slept very well and it didn't keep us awake at all! It also helped that the bed was extremely comfortable.
We took the lift down to the ground floor for breakfast, which was served in the hotel's restaurant, The Turquoise Thistle, and was true to its name decorated in turquoise and grey colours and was a nice sized room with comfortable seats.
For breakfast, you could choose cereals, fruit, yogurt, pastries, meats and cheeses from the counter and cooked breakfasts were ordered from the menu. We enjoyed some granola, berries and yogurt and orange juice before ordering a full english breakfast, tea and toast. The full english was presented nicely and the sausage and bacon were of a good quality and the tomatoes and mushrooms were cooked well. There was also an addition of a potato scone, which is often served with cooked breakfasts in Scotland, and it made a nice change from a hash brown.
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Indigo Edinburgh and it is a good hotel with fun and modern bedrooms in a great location for exploring Edinburgh.
