Born in 1939 in Bangladesh, Bishop Theotonius Gomes was consecrated Bishop in April 1979 and has been the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Dhaka since 1996. He has held many offices including Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bangladesh (1987-2007), Professor of Sacred Scripture at National Major Seminary in Bangladesh and has been President of Caritas Bangladesh, a partner of UK aid agency CAFOD, since 2006. Bishop Gomes has been involved in the CIDSE-Caritas Climate Justice campaign since its launch at the COP14 UN climate summit in Poznan in December 2008.
