Brix Smith Start is a unique talent, combining extensive fashion knowledge, a history in rock and roll and a fantastic portfolio of television presenting roles.

Brix joined the legendary British band The Fall in 1983 as a guitarist/singer/songwriter. She recorded and released numerous albums with The Fall and left for good back in 1996. She went on to release 2 solo albums under the name Adult Net in the years following The Fall.

Brix has since gone on to pursue a career in acting, presenting and most notably, in fashion. She sits on multiple fashion panels, including Fashion East and is regularly asked to judge student fashion and modeling competitions.

One of Brix’s priorities is discovering and nurturing emerging British design talent, and through her store she provides them with a platform to showcase their collections to the world.

Having launched her first boutique START with her husband Philip Start
in 2002, they have since pretty much taken over Rivington Street in East
London, with 3 boutiques and an online store (www.start-london.com).

The START stores are A-list boutiques, and are considered to be amongst the best stores in the world (cited so by Vogue, April 2010).

Brix is one of the most recognized faces in fashion and works on multiple TV projects. She has most recently completed her fourth series on Gok’s Fashion Fix (Channel 4) as Gok’s rival stylist, has co-presented ‘Fashion Fridays’ on Sky One’s Angela & Friends, appears regularly on ITV’s This Morning presenting the Fashion Live in addition to co-hosting Promzillas for Sky 1 and is soon to appear in an acting role in Parents, a comedy on Sky 1.

Brix lives in London with her husband Philip Start and her two pugs, Gladys and Pixie.

My Mother and Other Inspirational Women

(1) Comments | Posted 27 August 2013 | (01:00)

My major influence in my life is absolutely undoubtedly my mother. Her life was really difficult. She married my father and that didn't last too long. They were divorced when I was one and a half and she was thrust into single motherhood.

The thing with my mother that is...

Cara's New Favourite Brand

When Brit model sensation Cara Delevingne was spied wearing a Bad Ass Paris slogan t-shirt during Paris Fashion Week earlier this year, cult brand Cécile's debut SS13 collection was immediately thrust onto the fashion centre stage. And no wonder why with endorsements from those in the know, notably...

Ode to Rick

I've always thought of myself as the unofficial President of the Rick Owens Fan Club (ROFC), with more of the brand's signature leather jackets hanging in my wardrobe than I care to admit. Why? Simple. Rick Owens is a legend; no one does 'glamour-meets-grunge' better.

What I'm Wearing for LFW Day 3

(0) Comments | Posted 17 September 2012 | (16:03)

For Day 3 of London Fashion Week I turned to the master of leather and draping, Rick Owens. This dress is jersey but the intricate draped details stop the look becoming overly casual. A stunning metallic leather jacket from the AW12 Rick Owens collection is keeping me warm and leather...

On Day 2 of London Fashion Wee a dream was realised for me that will resonate with many women, young and old alike. Two worlds not normally seen hand in hand collided in spectacular form to celebrate the style of a icon; none other than Minnie Mouse.

London Fashion Week: A Poem for Bora Aksu

The weeds that held Ophelia down.
Dried and waterlogged poppy bones.
Knickers stuffed with floral bouquets,
Marie Antoinette x the 1922 summer season.
Period dreams, nouveau attic curtains waft.
The slumber of poppy bones and pond weeds.
Looking up through the water surface, periwinkle...

London Fashion Week: Zoë Jordan

My first show of London Fashion Week was the ever-wonderful Zoë Jordan. I think this is the show that's going to see Zoë smash through the fashion glass ceiling.

The show was attended by the most influential of press, adorable It girls and fashion darlings, such as Kelly Brook, Poppy...
