Our new section on HuffPost UK is dedicated to all things inspirational. If turning your life around sounds like too much hard work, we're starting gently with food as our theme for week one. Over the next few days, you can look forward to learning about new food trends, bizarre food customs and new and exciting recipes, all designed to get you out of the daily food ruts we're all guilty of...

Everyone complains that January is the most depressing month of the year, but quite frankly I'm still enjoying the post-Christmas buzz and doing my level best, usually fairly successfully, to lure as many friends off the detox bandwagon as possible to get too down at the beginning of the year.

February? Well, that's a whole different question. It's still cold (colder in February than January this year, in case your frost-bitten fingers hadn't given that little fact away) and Valentine's Day just tends to bankrupt/depress/stress-out (delete as applicable).

With all this in mind, we decided to launch a section on HuffPost UK dedicated to all things inspirational. If turning your life around sounds like too much hard work, we're starting gently with food as our theme for week one. Over the next few days, you can look forward to learning about new food trends, bizarre food customs and new and exciting recipes, all designed to get you out of the daily food ruts we're all guilty of (I might, just might, forgo my lunchtime trip to Itsu to mark the occasion, or at least order something that doesn't involve raw salmon).

However, it's not all about livening up your kitchen cupboards, we've also interviewed designers including London Fashion Week darling Mary Katrantzou and Christopher Kane on the things that inspire them. I'm also delighted to have James Dyson blogging for us on inspired design, Russ Litten on being a writer in residence in prison and how words inspire people to change their lives for the better, and Dr Gordon Mizner on inspiring teachers.

Aware, all too quickly, that inspiration can come from the strangest places, our culture editor, Sam, has been busy swotting up on an inspiring collection of modern fiction that should give you pause for thought, while later this week our tech editor Melanie Hick interviews Felicity Aston, the very first woman to reach the South Pole solo.

In the coming weeks and months, we'll turn our focus onto careers and lifestyle, with secret success tips from business leaders, writers and entrepreneurs.

In the meantime, I'd love to hear about the people and places who inspire you. Let me know in the comments below and your ideas could help inspire our next feature!
