Enough Is Enough: Why Too Much Motivational 'Stuff' Is Not Good For Your Career or Business Development

You have to get to the root cause of what is holding you back. You could spend millions chasing your dreams but unless you deal with the root cause, you will be making someone else richer whilst you stay the same.

There are many people who continuously go from one motivational event to the other. Or they sign up for one course or programme after the other, hoping that each one will bring them that much closer to achieving their dream.

Now as a coach and someone who is also self motivating, I'm all for motivational stuff and I think that it is good to hear a motivational talk or get inspiration to give yourself a kick start and a boost every now and then. But there comes a time when you have to say enough is enough and you have to actually take action.

If you are continuously going from motivational event to the other and not getting any further with your career or business goals, something is amiss.

There are a lot of events and programmes that promise you the world but at the end of the day, it is down to you to take action and do the hard work to make it happen.

Sometimes you need to switch off from all the shiny objects

Social media is full of the 'Earn 6 figure income in 30 days' type promotions. And with the ease of accessibility of social media advertising and the ability to target a far wider reach, these messages are continuously in our faces.

But sometimes you need to switch off from all the noise and the 'shiny objects' that are out there, promising you an easy ride, and focus on what it is that you need to do.

It would seem that we have become a nation that buys into the concept that you need to earn loads of money in order to have a satisfying life and be successful. So much so that people are willing to do this by any means necessary and constantly chase the latest get rich quick scheme that is promising them the world.

My Dad always said 'nothing good comes easy' and call me old fashioned if you like but I believe that to be true. If things are given to you instantly without you having to work for them, where is the satisfaction and appreciation?

There comes a time when you have to say, enough is enough

I think something is wrong where someone goes to motivational event or programme one after the other and 12 months later are still in the same position. There comes a time when you have to say to yourself that enough is enough and you have to take personal action. Unless you start to take personal action, true motivation won't come.

You may have dreams of a 7 figure income business but you know what, it is not going to happen overnight no matter how many motivational talks you go to or what programme it is that you do.

Some people are spending thousands of pounds going to these types of events and doing the latest programme, and if this is you, ask yourself, what are you actually getting from it?

You have to get to the root cause of what is holding you back. You could spend millions chasing your dreams but unless you deal with the root cause, you will be making someone else richer whilst you stay the same.

For many I suspect that the root cause is fear, a lack of resilience and endurance, and failure to take the necessary action.

Is there something that you are fearful of?

Is there some kind of fear that is holding you back and stopping you moving forward? This could be a fear of failure, fear of success, fear of rejection, fear of making a fool of yourself, thinking that you are not good enough and the list goes on...

Unless you face your fear, confront it and deal with it, you will still be going along to these success days or motivational talks, getting fired up for the day but will still be no further 10 years on.

Do you lack endurance and resilience?

There will be days when you do not feel motivated to continue. There will be days when you get bored. There will be days when you become overwhelmed by what it is that you need to do. Nobody said that the journey would be easy and you need to develop endurance and resilience so that you continue even when the going gets tough and so that you are able to adapt positively when you face setbacks.

You also need to enjoy the journey, knowing that it will lead you to where you want to go.

There is no motivation without action

Don't sit around waiting for the motivation to come because you may still be sitting in the same spot this time next year. In order to get motivated you need to get moving. Take action and the motivation will follow.

If you have been to motivational event/programme one after the other and are still no further forward in what you want to achieve, maybe it is time for you to do something different.

Remember, you can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
