A witness has testified in the trial of Oscar Pistorius that the Olympian asked a friend to take the blame for firing a shot in an upmarket restaurant.
Boxer, Kevin Lerena, appeared at Pistorius trial as a prosecution witness and outlined the events of the shooting, which took place at Tasha's restaurant, in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, on 13 January 2013.
Pistorius stands accused of the murder of 29-year-old Reeva Steenkamp and various offences involving firearms, including that at Tasha's restaurant.
The boxer testified that Pistorius had asked friend Darren Fresco to take the blame.
Addressing the court, cruiserweight fighter Lerena recounted that whilst out for dinner with Oscar and some mutual friends, whilst not seeing the gun, he saw the "movement" of a gun being passed underneath the table.
He said: "A shot went off in the restaurant and then there was just complete silence.
"I looked down on the floor and exactly where my foot was stationary, there was a hole in the floor."
The bullet, which was fired under the table into the marble floor of the restaurant, grazed Lerena's toe but he was not seriously hurt and did not seek medical attention.
He added: "The shot went off I do remember Oscar vaguely saying, apologising. Is everybody ok, is everything ok, I apologise.
"Before anybody came to the table, I remember Oscar saying 'please', to Darren, 'just say it was you, I don't want any attention around me, just say it was you'.
"The people from the restaurant came to the table and then that's when Darren said it was him."
He added: "There could have been a fatality. It didn't sink in until three or four days after."
Pistorius's legal counsel, Barrie Roux, stated the defence were unaware that Lerena would be called as a witness and asked Judge Masipa for an adjournment to prepare, which was granted.
Roux added: "I may ask Mr Aldrich to do the cross-examination because I don't know I want to cross-examine a boxer."
