The Truth Is We're Delivering More Jobs, a Stronger Economy and a Brighter Future

It's understandable that Yvette Cooper is trying to get some headlines as her leadership rivals surge ahead in the polls. It's just ironic that she's chosen to do so by accusing the Conservatives of misleading people - when the truth is we're delivering more jobs, a stronger economy and a brighter future for our nation. It's just the same old Labour - they've no plan for the future, whoever ends up leading the party.

To mark 100 days of the first Conservative government in nearly 20 years, HuffPost UK is running 100 Days of Dave, a special series of blog posts from grassroots campaigners to government ministers, single parents to first-year students, reflecting on what's worked and what hasn't, whilst looking for solutions to the problems we still face

Claim: The Government is cutting child tax credits

Reality: We are not cutting child tax credits. These are only part of the freeze in working-age benefits, with the child element also restricted for new claims to two children for new births from 2017 (Summer Budget 2015, 8 July 2015).

Claim: The Government is cutting child benefit

Reality: We are not cutting child benefit. Child benefit is only part of the freeze in working age benefits, which had been announced (Summer Budget 2015, 8 July 2015).

Claim: The Government has cancelled rail electrification plans

Reality: Electrification has not been cancelled. Labour electrified just 10 miles of railway in 13 years. In contrast we are investing record amounts in our railways. The electrification of the Great Western Line is a top priority. Work on electrification on the Midland mainline and the Transpennine route between Leeds and Manchester has only been paused - not cancelled (Hansard, 16 July 2012; DfT press release, 25 June 2015).

Claim: The Government has downgrading of the number of affordable homes due to be built

Reality: Our commitment to deliver 275,000 new affordable homes by 2020 is unchanged. Since 2010 we have already built 260,000 new affordable homes and now we are going further by committing to build a total of 275,000 affordable homes between 2015 and 2020 (HM Treasury, Autumn Statement 2014, 3 December 2014, p.40; DCLG Press Release, 16 June 2015).

Claim: The Government has delayed the decision about a new airport runway in south-east England

Reality: A decision is being made this year. As promised in our manifesto we will 'respond to the Airports Commission's final report'. This is a vital moment for the future of our aviation industry and the report deserves proper respect and consideration before we come back to Parliament to provide clear direction on the government's plans (Conservative Party Manifesto, April 2015).

Claim: the Government has delayed the introduction of tax-free childcare from 2015 to 2017

Reality: Tax-free childcare is being brought in. As promised in our manifesto 'We will bring in tax-free childcare to help parents return to work' (Conservative Party Manifesto, April 2015).

Claim: the Government has cancelled plans to give public officials three days off work to take part in volunteering

Reality: Our plans for volunteering leave remain unchanged. The Prime Minister outlined plans to give public sector workers and those working for large companies three days volunteering leaver per year in this Parliament, and we will deliver on that pledge.

Claim: the Government is not delivering on its commitment to cap the costs of social care

Reality: We remain fully committed to introducing a cap on social care costs. By delaying introducing these changes we will be able to work with the insurance industry so they are more able to offer financial products to make these changes work. We remain committed to implementing the cap so that no-one has unlimited liability for care costs. However, it is important that we choose the right time for doing so.

Claim: the Government is not meeting its pledge for greater transparency

Reality: We are world leaders in open and transparent government. We are opening up government to citizens by making it easier to access information, with a record 20,000 datasets available on gov.uk. Open Knowledge's Global Open Data Index ranked the UK as the world's leading country on open government. 15 years after the introduction of Freedom of Information, it's right to have a review to make sure the Act is working effectively (Cabinet Office, 17 July 2015).
