Cannes film festival is in full swing and with the obvious focus on new film releases the second favourite topic of conversation is inevitably fashion. In the most beautiful backdrop that really does feel like it has been taken directly out of an Audrey Hepburn film, the rich, famous and extremely lucky get to experience the best life truly has to offer so it's no wonder that everyone wants to look their best.

And I'm not just talking about the glamorous evening dresses, men and women put on a show of enviable day and evening wear, like Carey Mulligan's Balenciaga black jumpsuit that stood out to the rugged handsomeness of Di Caprio and Maguire.

There are just too many great outfits to name but I absolutely loved Alessandra Ambrosio in her sequin floor-length Elie Saab in a very trendy yellow colour, and Jennifer Lawrence, who I will never say a bad word against, looked equally elegant in a bespoke Dior strapless gown to the premiere if Jimmy P.

So far though Zoe Saldana gets my award for best dressed so far when she wore a simple but elegantly cool Emilio Pucci white dress with black lace detail to the Blood Ties after party.

But not everyone can enjoy the delights that Cannes has to offer during this glittering month (or ever) so instead I decided to inject some of my own Cannes film festival glamour into my life.

There are quite a few pieces I have been longing after from the SS13 shows and from the new Spring collections hitting the stores that project some of that je ne sais quoi that is so enviable at the film festival. Sophie Hulme has an amazing black iPad case with a golden pineapple weaved on the front and a small spoon attached to the zip.

Now I don't have an iPad to go in this beautiful case and I certainly couldn't afford both so I'm currently hatching a plan to justify purchasing this wonderful piece by using it to store my paperwork in. (This currently hasn't gone down well with my mum but it's a work in progress...all suggestions to help my case are welcome!)

One of my favourite dresses this summer is a stunning fitted white dress by Alessandra Rich that has a lace red lightning bolt down the front, providing such a cool element to a classically elegant piece. I love this dress with some converse during the day and some white stilettos from New Look in the evening, although these are an acquired taste, usually by someone who loves the 80's!

Polo shirts have taken over & Other Stories at the moment, but there is a great casual polo dress in a bright cobalt blue that is perfect for summer, when it eventually turns up, and Zara has just brought in a lingerie style grey top in a very cute bird print. And what outfit would be complete without a pair of sunglasses perched on your head ready for the first glimmer of sunshine to protrude through the grey clouds that seem to have taken over our very English summer.

I was recently seriously considering investing in a pair of black acetate Victoria Beckham sunglasses that are seriously understated cool, but that was until I saw the new Chanel frames come in. Defiantly retro the Chanel 4202 Pantos round metal and coloured frames are exactly the type of accessory we should all have, one which transforms an outfit from a simple t-shirt, jeans and pumps throw on to a well thought out super cool outfit. Green is my colour of choice, bring on summer!
