As Team SCA settle into life on land in Cape Town, and make the most of spending precious 'down time' with family and loved ones, one of the crew has discovered that there's nothing like a bit of sibling rivalry to keep her fearlessly fighting off the competition!

Following the announcement that Libby Greenhalgh's older brother will be joining team Mapfre, Libby was approached by the UK Bodyform team, who told her about their 'Live Fearless' campaign in support of Team SCA's challenge, to see how his decision has empowered her to stay strong for her family, and her team.

"The worst decision is indecision."

Personal profile

Date of birth: Aug 03, 1980

Position: Navigator

What's the biggest lesson you have learnt in life so far? Always make the most of what you have

What do you miss most when you are at sea? My family and knowing what they are up to(!)

The girls are no stranger to having siblings at sea, with Swiss sisters Justine and Elodie-Jane Mettraux both being part of the all-female team. While those of us with tumultuous relationships with our brothers and sisters might see this as a disadvantage, the girls say that their enviable bond is a great way to offer support to one another - bringing them closer.

And it is this shared experience that helps the team grow together as a group of friends, women and work colleagues... a sisterhood of fearless, kick-ass sailors.

This is something that Libby knows all too well. She told Bodyform that when she started the project she thought it would be really good if her brother was doing it as well - "one for the shared experiences, and the other to be able to have those conversations when you get ashore with your brother, which is pretty special. You can't match that!"

Not only this, it was also her brother that inspired her to say 'yes' to joining Team SCA. "It was great to be able to help support him, and that he valued my opinion. So, I text him with the same message that he sent to me - Just do it!"

It is inevitable that there will be a bit of rivalry, especially as Team SCA pipped Mapfre to the post on the home straight of Leg 1, but this will only help inspire and spur the girls on during the next leg.

In unique situations like this, it's paramount that Libby pulls together for her "other" family, Team SCA, which translates into staying positive and giving it all she's got. Plus, there's no sweeter victory than telling your big brother he's been beaten by his fearless little sister.
