With just over three months until the biggest sporting event in the world takes over our lives for just a few weeks, hoards of fans from various nations will be counting their team's chances of lifting the famous trophy as winners of the World Cup.
But what chance do England have this year?
With players such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta amongst the many obstacles in England's path, many are preparing for another disappointing competition for the Three Lions.
However, I argue that the English should be more positive about our chances. We're too quick to attack and condemn our boys when they fail to deliver, but rarely offer praise and optimism should they do well.
Here are five reasons why English football fans should be more optimistic about England's chances in the World Cup.
5. Wayne Rooney
Rooney has been a shining light in a somewhat dull and dismal season for David Moyes's Manchester United.
And with five goals in his last seven games, the striker seems to be hitting form at a pivotal time for England.
His passion and drive to do well is also a valuable attribute for the squad.
The fact that he has now played in two World Cups, in 2006 and 2010, means he is well experienced and knows what to expect.
England's performance is sure to be based upon how well he plays his part and let's hope that United's poor form doesn't effect his game come the summer.
4. Keen Youngsters
England's young-guns have been demonstrating their stuff in the Premier League recently.
The likes of Raheem Sterling and Ross Barkley have almost all but booked their place on the plane to Brazil after their recent displays.
It's not even that far fetched to say that manager Roy Hodgson should give them a spot in the starting line-up.
Their raw passion and flair would give the England side a new dimension and could surprise other competitors.
The old and relatively boring style of play we've become accustomed to may be a thing of the past if these exciting youngsters are given their chance on the biggest stage of all.
3. Less Pressure
England face less pressure this year because expectations for the tournament are so low.
In past tournaments they were expected to win by many because of strength of the squad and the hunger of over 60 years of not winning anything.
Now, failure in past tournaments has made many fans lose faith in the squad, easing the pressure somewhat.
This could benefit the squad greatly as they can go to Brazil without the weight of a nation on their shoulders.
2. Difficult Group Stage
This may look to be more of a hindrance than a help, but it could be a blessing in disguise.
Take the last tournament for example. England went in thinking they would dominate their group and ended up qualifying by the skin of their teeth.
They failed to get going and were knocked out after getting destroyed by Germany.
This year, their group contains Uruguay and Italy, meaning that England will have to perform at their very best from the get-go.
This may serve them well if they do manage to qualify. One of the best teams in the tournament will be out and facing these teams will give the Three Lions an early indication of how well they will have to play.
1. Vein of Form
Teams with a good percentage of English players featuring in their first team squads, such as Liverpool, Everton and Southampton, are playing very well at the moment.
The likes of Adam Lallana, Ross Barkley, Leighton Baines and Daniel Sturridge have all had brilliant seasons and this can only mean good things for the national squad.
There have always been calls for Premier League sides to field more English players for the benefit of the national side and this season has seen a massive improvement.
More match time and experience has meant better performances and players like these look ready to face the best teams in the world come Brazil 2014.
