DV Closet's 'Best Dressed' From The Oscars 2017

Instead of giving you a general feel of the clothes on show, we decided to take a closer look at five of our personal favourites for those of you who weren't mad enough to stay up all night and watch it on television.

It's hard to think of a night in the fashion calendar that's more anticipated than the Oscars. Every year, we get to watch the biggest stars of the year as they walk down that red carpet and stun us with their choice of outfits.

This year's show provided us with plenty of memorable moments -- and we're not just referring to that 'best picture' award mix-up! While most attendees kept it fairly subtle yet classy, there were also a few especially bold looks that took us by surprise.

Instead of giving you a general feel of the clothes on show, we decided to take a closer look at five of our personal favourites for those of you who weren't mad enough to stay up all night and watch it on television.

Emma Stone

Stone's beautiful outfit managed to capture all of the glitz and glamour of La La Land, the film for which she won Best Actress. It was hard for us to take our eyes off the golden Givenchy haute couture gown, which seemed to equally dazzle those around her as it caught the light and sparkled in all directions. She finished off the classy look with red lipstick and some gorgeous statement earrings.

Meryl Streep

Unusually, the debate around Streep's choice of outfit began before the Oscars had even started, when designer Karl Lagerfeld told the press that she had refused to wear a Chanel dress because the house refused to pay her. Whatever the situation may be, Streep still managed to wow the crowds with a luxurious, embellished Elie Saab dress in navy blue. Underneath that she wore matching navy trousers and huge high heels for even more extravagance.

Naomie Harris

Harris pulled off this outstanding Calvin Klein white two-piece dress with all the confidence and finesse that won her the Best Supporting Actress award for Moonlight. She also injected some colour into her outfit with a pair of yellow high heels, while upping the glamour with some gorgeous Bvlgari jewellery. This was without doubt one of our favourite outfits of the whole night.

Brie Larson

From the understated to the downright crazy, Larson's outfit was one to remember - in a good way. The velvet dress by Oscar de la Renta featured a plunging neckline and a tail that twirled and twizzled in a way that almost seemed to defy gravity. It was certainly one of the most daring options of the night, and it definitely paid off!

Hailee Steinfeld

One of the biggest surprises from this year's carpet was Steinfeld's jaw-dropping, flower-laden gown by Ralph & Russi. The outfit had just enough detail to stun without coming off as too over-the-top, and the embellishments on the gown were absolutely perfect. With seductive make-up and a single show-stopping bracelet, it was truly something special.

All in all, this is one of the classiest Oscars ceremonies that we can remember. Although many people will remember it for that mistake, we'll remember it for the stunning style statements. It may be premature to look ahead to what's worn to next year's ceremony, but 2017 will certainly be tough to beat.
