Top Five Reasons Mental Health Needs to Be on the Agenda

1.NHS Mental Health Services Crumbling: We are seeing in Britain mental health standards falling, people on waiting lists for long than six months and NHS beds being lost while private beds are being brought into replace them which is more costly and some patients describe being taken miles from home for treatment.

This Month it was shown that 50 million pounds had been cut alone from children and adolescent services revealed by NHS England in a Parliamentary answer.

A report done by charity Mind showed that the public health budget only spends a minuscule 1.4% on mental health in Britain.

2.Schools struggling to support mentally ill pupils: Britain schools are struggling to help and support young mental health sufferers, with the lack of education given to teachers and lack of in school support, pupils with mental health problems grades are lowering and on top of all of that pupils with mental health problems are being labelled as "Disruptive" and "Troublemakers" which to many parents with young sons or daughters suffering would find that appalling.

3.Levels of Drug and Alcohol abuse: Many people don't realise how much they drink or all the effects drugs might have on them but these terrifying figures show a much darker picture, with people aged 16-24, 2.5 million people (37.7%) had ever taken an illicit drug in their lifetime; 1.3 million (19.3%) had done so in the last year.

The more education about the risks of these sorts of activities with support lowers mental health rates and gives people better well being.

4.Stigma and Discrimination Towards Mental Illness: Stigma and discrimination has always been attached to mental health but with figures like this it needs more addressing in 2015:

•Nearly 9 out of 10 people with mental health problems have been affected by stigma and discrimination.

•26% of young people said that stigma and discrimination attached to mental health has made them want to give up on life

•40% said that they had experienced negative reactions from teachers

•57% said fear of stigma had stopped them from applying to a job

•32% said that it had stopped them from applying to university or college

5.Cost to the economy per year: everyone likes to talk about the economy but the cost of bad mental health and well being costs the tax payer a staggering £105 Billion.

With the election coming up maybe it is time to improve services and start to invest in more education in schools and company's and start to make the positive change not just to the economy but people life's, if there young or old, rich or poor, black or white.
