David Campbell Bannerman is a Conservative MEP for the East of England and he has long-standing connections with the area and has family there. David was first elected to the European Parliament in June 2009 as a UKIP MEP.

David has been the Special Adviser to Sir Patrick Mayhew, when he was the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland on the Peace Process. He has been Chairman of the Bow Group think tank, a local councillor, and stood for the Conservative Party during the 2001 General Election campaign.

A great supporter of the Commonwealth, David was born in India but has lived in the UK since he was a child. After graduating from Edinburgh University with an M.A (Honours) degree (with 1 year on exchange at Wharton Business School, Philadelphia, USA). David first worked for advertising agencies and public relations companies. He went on to become the Communications Director for a leading transport organisation (ATOC), led the website division of a leading PLC and was a senior consultant for international PR agencies.

He moved to the Conservatives in May last year from UKIP, where he served as Deputy Leader, Party Chairman and Head of Policy. He says that a Conservative backed In/Out EU Referendum is the fastest and most practical way to leave the EU.
David wrote and launched the influential policy paper: 'The Ultimate Plan B: a Positive Vision of an independent Britain outside the European Union' in October 2011, a publication that the Daily Mail’s Simon Heffer said, ‘deserves to be studied carefully.’
