British LGBT Awards Unveil 2018 Nominations Shortlist

Susan Calman, Rylan and Laverne Cox are just a few up those up for gongs.

British LBGT Awards bosses have announced nominees for this year’s event.

A string of global or LGBT+ stars across the TV, music and entertainment world, and ‘straight allies’ who work to advance the rights of LGBT communities, have been recognised.

Those nominated for LGBT+ ‘Celebrity of the Year’ include trans activist and ‘Orange Is The New Black’ star Laverne Cox, singer Demi Lovato, presenter Rylan Clark-Neal and ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant Susan Calman.

The returning ‘Will & Grace’ and Olly Alexander’s BBC documentary ‘Growing Up Gay’ have been listed in the Media Moment Of The Year category.

Meanwhile, Harry Styles, Dawn French, James Cordon, John Bishop and Ariana Grande are among those shortlisted for the Straight Ally of the Year accolade.

Dua Lipa, Jess Glynne and P!NK are all set to face off for the ‘Music Artist of the Year’ gong, while Edward Enninful, the editor of British Vogue, and Kate McKinnon, who shot to fame on Saturday Night Live after her portrayal of Hillary Clinton, are also nominated for awards.

Charitable organisations that work to support LGBT+ communications and businesses, including ASDA, Channel 4 and Disney, have also been shortlisted.

The countdown to the biggest annual event in Britain’s LGBT+ calendar has now begun, with the event taking place at London’s Marriott Grosvenor Square on Friday 11 May, in front of a packed celebrity crowd.
