‘Great British Bake Off’ Could Return WITHOUT Mary Berry And Paul Hollywood After Presenting ‘Family’ Split Up

‘The Great British Bake Off’ judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood could soon be following in the footsteps of presenters Mel and Sue by quitting the show.

The two judges are currently weighing up their options after it was confirmed that the current series would be the last on BBC One after it was sold to Channel 4.

But both Paul and Mary are reportedly on the verge of following the presenting duo out of the door, after the show’s ‘family’ was split up.

A source told The Sun: “Mary and Paul believe the show works because of Mel and Sue.

“It’s always been the four of them together. They are all really close and constantly hang out together in between filming.

“They repeatedly talk about how they are a family and they both credit the show’s success down to Mel and Sue as well as the format.

“Mary and Paul believe Mel and Sue set the tone of the show. They are the beginning, middle and the end and they fit around them.”

According to the source, Mary and Paul have yet to discuss their future on the show, but it’s believed if one goes, so will the other.

“Paul is currently in LA and hasn’t had a chance to talk to Mary. But they have always said they are in it together,” the source added.

Mary and Paul have previously stated that they’d want the show to stay at the Beeb and reportedly refused to move to ITV during the negotiations.

Although Mary has remained tight-lipped on her ‘Bake Off’ future, her husband Paul Hunnings has hinted that she won’t be keen on moving to Channel 4.

He told the Daily Mail: “She’s very happy with the BBC, put it that way.”

He added that she wasn’t “signing anything” with Channel 4 and what her ‘Bake Off’ colleagues chose to do “would be a factor” in her final decision.

In an interview earlier this year, Paul Hollywood also stated he would want to stay at the BBC.

“It’s not up to us, it’s up to the production company, but as far as Mary, Mel, Sue and myself are concerned we want to stay on the BBC,” he said.

Despite Mel and Sue’s departure and the possibility that Mary and Paul may also quit, Channel 4 are prepared to continue with an all-new presenting team.

A Channel 4 source said: “Bake Off is the brand and it will always be popular. There’s no doubting that when Channel 4 bid for the show they dreamt that they would get the star talent too.

“But they are now facing a very real situation where none of them are here when it comes back and they are preparing for that.

“The show is hugely popular overseas, and neither Mary and Paul, nor Mel and Sue, are a part of those shows. Baking is what people love. The four stars are just a part of the appeal.”

Yesterday, Mel and Sue released a statement confirming they would be leaving ‘GBBO’.

They said: “We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that ‘Bake Off’ will be moving from its home. We made no secret of our desire for the show to remain where it was.

“We’ve had the most amazing time on Bake Off, and have loved seeing it rise and rise like a pair of yeasted Latvian baps.

“We’re not going with the dough. We wish all the future bakers every success.”
