Brace yourselves, Apple doesn't think your iPhone is going to last for long.

The tech giant believes the iPhone's life cycle will only be for three years.

It made the prediction in a new question and answer section on its site, dedicated to the environment.

"Years of use, which are based on first owners, are assumed to be four years for OS X and tvOS devices and three years for iOS and watchOS devices," Apple said.

The same page made mention of a potential new name for Apple's computer operating system, which sent the rumour mill into overdrive.

For a brief period, the company referred to it as MacOS and tvOS devices, The Guardian reports.

However, it was later changed back to OS X and tvOS devices.

Whether a rebrand is in the works or not, it is too soon to tell if Apple's predictions will have an impact on the types of devices consumers choose to spend their money on.
