Ikea Starts Selling Solar Panels In The UK

You Can Now Buy Solar Panels From Ikea

Ikea has entered the world of renewable energy by selling solar panels in the UK

To begin with customers will be able to order the panels online via a dedicated site or through three stores: Glasgow, Birmingham and Lakeside.

This a much-needed boost for the renewable sector after the government cut solar incentives by a massive 65 per cent.

Despite the government's claims that the cut was a result of the industry now maturing, the Guardian reports that the number of solar installations massively crashed after the announcement.

Fighting against the trend then is Ikea, and while some of the reason it's doing this is due to a sustainability push the company reveals it's much simpler than that.

According to Ikea over a third of their customers are keen to get on board with solar.

“At IKEA we believe that renewable energy is undoubtedly the power of the future. We’re already using solar power across our operations, and it’s exciting to be able to help households tap into this wonderful source of clean energy." said Joanna Yarrow, Head of Sustainability at IKEA UK and Ireland.

By the end of summer Ikea plans to have a 'Solar Store' inside all of its UK locations.

Each store will be manned by Ikea staff where they'll be able to help you decide if it's worth the investment and then give you a provisional quote.

Once completed the Ikea team then hand the reigns over to Solar Century who then handle the rest including installation.
