A car mad Brit has transformed a rusty old Volkswagen pickup into a £50k jet-powered truck that can travel at over 300 miles per hour.
Inventor, Perry Watkins, imported the 1958 Volkswagen truck from Oklahoma and has spent five years working on the crazy creation - which included securing a 5,000 brake horse-power fighter jet engine on the back of it.
Perry recently tested the hybrid vehicle, dubbed Oklahoma Willy, for the first time at Santa Pod raceway and the incredible footage has since gone viral - racking up more than one million views online.
Amazingly the jet-powered truck, which Perry spent £50,000 masterminding, is completely road legal thanks to the standard engine hidden in the boot.
The 55-year-old single-handedly built the vehicle in his garage in Buckinghamshire and now hopes it will be recognised by the Guinness World Records as the World’s most powerful road registered car.
Perry said: “It was extremely nerve racking the first time I drove the car under jet power.
“I had no idea how the car would react, it is after all 60 years old and as aerodynamic as a brick.
“The car could have spun out of control, flipped or even taken off as the 5000 lbs of thrust was applied.
“As it happens the car handled perfectly and the sensation of the jet propulsion I can only describe as feeling like I was strapped into a giant firework.”
Perry is no stranger to crazy cars having previously created a host of other bizarre vehicles including a nine foot Dalek and a 24 inch tall replica of the Batmobile dubbed the Flatmobile.
In 2009 Perry also secured a Guinness World Record for the world’s smallest road legal car called the Wind Up which was the size of a washing machine and in 2010 he claimed another world record for the world’s fastest furniture - creating a car made from a dining table and chairs.
