Lady Gaga has issued an emotional statement, amid rumours that she and her fiancé Taylor Kinney have called time on their relationship.

The ‘Just Dance’ singer responded to the claims that the pair had split after five years together on her Instagram page, setting the record straight about what had gone on between them.

Although Gaga confirmed that she and Taylor were “taking a break”, she insisted that they were still hoping to work through their issues, explaining on her Instagram page: “Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates.

“Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break. We are both ambitious artists, hoping to work through long-distance and complicated schedules to continue the simple love we have always shared. Please root us on.”

She added: “We’re just like everybody else and we really love each other.”

Gaga and Taylor first began dating in 2011, shortly after they met on the set of her ‘Yoü And I’ music video, where he played her love interest.

In the months that followed he accompanied her to a number of public events, with the two eventually announcing their engagement earlier this year, when he proposed on Valentine’s Day.

Sharing a photo of her dazzling heart-shaped engagement ring with her Twitter followers two days later, Gaga revealed: “He gave me his heart on Valentine’s Day, and I said YES!”

It’s been a busy year for Gaga, who, in addition to her Golden Globe-winning performance as the lead in ‘American Horror Story: Hotel’, is currently working on her latest album, the follow-up to 2013’s ‘ARTPOP’.
