Lupita Nyong'o Reveals The Real Inspiration Behind Her Met Gala Hair

The actress tells Vogue it's not Audrey Hepburn.

Lupita Nyong'o's stunning 2016 Met Gala hairstyle was one of the most talked about beauty looks of the night - with Vogue writing an entire piece about how the actress was the 'new Audrey Hepburn'.

But Nyong'o took to Instagram to set the record straight about her true inspiration, sharing a slideshow video with her 2.6 million followers.

The short clip featured a 50:50 split of her gravity defying 'do with traditional African hairstyles and a style worn by Nina Simone.

"Hair Inspiration. Check. @vernonfrancois @voguemagazine #metball2016," she captioned the post, tagging the magazine and her hair stylist.

This isn't the first time the actress has used her influence to speak out about issues around diversity, calling out those who fail to recognise it.

Writing on her Instagram page earlier this year, Nyong'o revealed she was "disappointed" by what she described as a "lack of inclusion" in the list of Oscar nominations.

She added: "I stand with my peers who are calling for change in expanding the stories that are told and recognition of the people who tell them."
