'Marcella' Series 2: Anna Friel Confirms There'll Be More Of ITV's Crime-Noir Drama

'Marcella' star Anna Friel has seemingly confirmed there will be more series of the hit drama.

The former 'Brookside' actress, who plays DS Marcella Backland in ITV's crime-noir, has revealed she has signed up for two more series.

Speaking to Digital Spy, she said: "I've had to sign for three. But I need a break - it's been quite challenging emotionally!"

The first season of 'Marcella' reached a gripping conclusion on Tuesday (17 May) night, where the identity of the serial killer was finally revealed.

However, there were still plenty of loose ends that were not tied up, which have seemingly set the show up for another series.

Anna's co-star Nicholas Pinnock, who plays Marcella's husband Jason, also fuelled speculation of a second series during an appearance on 'This Morning' earlier this week.

Anna has also claimed it takes a lot of "hard graft and concentration" to play the troubled Marcella.

"She doesn't smile!" she told Digital Spy. "Even when she has sex, she's miserable - or not miserable, but she's got something going on [in her mind]...

"What's quite exhausting is her unpredictability ­- you can't ever play one single thing. It's got to be very layered, so you don't know where she's going to go and what she's going to do."
