'Call The Midwife' Christmas Special Will See Miranda Hart Return As Chummy

It will be the perfect Christmas gift for fans of the show.

Miranda Hart is set to return to 'Call The Midwife', just in time for Christmas.

The actress will reprise her role as Chummy in the hit BBC One drama's festive special, it has been reported.

She will then make a permanent return during series six in 2017.

Miranda hasn't been seen on screen as Camilla 'Chummy' Fortescue- Cholmeley-Browne since the beginning of series four, when she quit to focus on her film career, after landing a role in 'Spy', opposite Melissa McCarthy and Jason Statham.

Miranda joined 'Call The Midwife' when it first began in 2012, and her characters absence in recent years was explained by moving her to a mother and baby unit.

The last series of the show, which finished airing in March, saw the departure of one long-standing star, when Pam Ferris' character Sister Evangelina was killed off.

The episodes also saw the midwives and nuns transitioning into the 1960s, and topics covered include the rights of female sex workers and the invention of the contraceptive pill.

The finale also saw Dr. Turner figure out that thalidomide is the reason for the sudden rise in babies born with deformities.
