Miranda Hart Will NOT Be Returning To 'Call The Midwife'

The Christmas special will see the midwives travelling to South Africa

In a blow to Miranda Hart’s fans, the comedic actress has changed her mind about a return to ‘Call the Midwife’.

The BBC previously announced that her character of Chummy would be returning for this year’s Christmas special, however, Miranda has shared on social media that this will no longer be happening, due to her heavy workload in the next few months.

She wrote: “It’s with a heavy heart that having shared Chummy’s return to CTM, I’ve not been able to birth (pun) the schedule to make it work. xx”

The show’s producers confirmed the news separately, adding that the summer’s filming of the new series had been going brilliantly.

Miranda also bigged up the return of the series, telling viewers they were in for a treat with “Dame Harriet Walter as a new cast member and more besides”.

Miranda’s star continues to shine, following her departure from the popular East End period drama, and the end of her own sitcom ‘Miranda’ last year.

She recently made her Hollywood debut alongside Melissa McCarthy in comedy ‘Spy’.

Meanwhile, there are some other details about the Christmas special, which will see the midwives and nuns heading abroad, and the cast have been filming in South Africa.

The most recent episodes were a huge hit with fans, who were left reaching for the tissues following the shock death of one of a much-loved Nonnatus House resident.
