Truck Driver's Photo Shows What 28 Years Of Sun Damage Can Do To Skin

This is why you should always wear sun cream.

A 69-year-old truck driver has revealed what 28 years of sun exposure can do to the skin. And it's pretty terrifying.

The photograph below shows how the left side of the man's face has aged so much that he has developed thick, wrinkling skin.

On the other side of his face, the side which would have been in the shade while he drove his truck, his skin is far more youthful with barely any wrinkles.

The man's case was first presented in The New England Journal of Medicine back in 2012. However it has recently resurfaced on Reddit.

The photograph has made a lot of people think twice about not wearing sun cream.

Researchers said the man had a "history of gradual, asymptomatic thickening and wrinkling of the skin on the left side of his face".

They concluded that he had sun damaged skin, also know as dermatoheliosis.

Ultraviolet A (UVA) rays can transmit through window glass, penetrating the epidermis and upper layers of dermis.

Chronic UVA exposure can result in thickening of the skin, as well as a drastic decrease in skin elasticity.

Scientists said that this process can also lead to skin cancer.

"The use of sun protection and topical retinoids and periodic monitoring for skin cancer were recommended for the patient," they added.

"He's like a living advertisement for sunscreen," he added.
