Student Fights Period Shame By Carrying Spare Tampons, Urges Others To Do The Same

We can all learn a lot from Chance's attitude to menstruation.

We all know that there is a certain stigma surrounding periods. Despite half the population menstruating for the majority of their lives, it is still widely seen as a dirty, little secret.

But things are slowly changing.

That's why the internet has fallen head-over-heels for Chance Ward, a student fighting period shame one tampon at a time.

Earlier this week Chance was in the gym, when they overheard a woman discreetly ask a female friend if she had an extra tampon.

When she realised Chance had overheard, she was mortified and apologised.

But rather than recoil in horror (as society tends to do when it comes menstruation), Chance simply handed her a tampon - because despite not menstruating themselves, Chance carries a stash of tampons everywhere they go to help friends who are caught short.

Not content with simply helping one person out, Chance took to Facebook to make a public stand against period shaming. Their post has since gone viral.

So I'm in the gym today (getting my life to Truffle Butter on this elliptical ofc) when the girl next to me asks her...

Unsurprisingly, the post has gone viral and everyone wants to be Chance's best friend.

Chance said it's up to everyone to remove period stigma: "This is so sad. Why don't y'all love y'all friends that menstruate? Like men will make whole guest rooms in their house just in case someone needs to stay. But god forbid that person menstruate, because I bet you won't be no extra pads or tampons under that guest bathroom sink."

Chance added: "To all my menstruating friends, if y'all need it, know I got it. I keep some in my fanny pack when I go to the gym, and some in my backpack all the time. Never feel embarrassed for asking for one. Never feel embarrassed for being human."

One Facebook user commented: "If everyone who didn't menstruate was like you, so many people's days/lives would be all the better"

Another said: "I'm glad someone is talking about how easy but necessary this is."
