Teen Takes Mum With Terminal Brain Cancer To Prom

'That was the most beautiful I think I've ever seen her.'

Kerry Huffaker was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer in February and was sadly given just months to live.

Understandably her son, Dylan, wants to make the most of the time they have left together, so he recently invited his mum to be his prom date.

The pair got dressed up for the occasion, with Kerry wearing a glamorous black dress and Dylan donning a kilt.

"That was the most beautiful I think I've ever seen her," he told ABC News.

"I thought about it and I can look back after years and years and remember who I went to prom with. I'll know it was someone I loved who meant something to me."

The pair attended prom at Canyon Ridge High School in Idaho after the 17-year-old presented his mum with a tray of frosted doughnuts decorated with the words: "Will you go to prom with me?"

"When I realised what he was doing, I said, 'are you sure you want to go with your bald old mum?'" Kerry, 59, told TODAY.

"He responded by telling me I'm going to be the most beautiful one in the room."

Dylan even asked the DJ if he and his mum could have a special mother-son dance.

The other students cleared the floor to allow Kerry to have her moment in the spotlight.

She said the experience was "touching" and "very emotional" adding: "When the song was over, I had people I didn't know coming over to hug us."

Kerry has gone through surgery, radiation and chemotherapy treatment and will soon be receiving new medication under a clinical trial in the hope that it will extend her life.

The Huffaker family has set up a GoFundMe page asking for help to lesson the financial burden they're experiencing as a result of Kerry's ongoing treatment.
