This Is How American Students Are Dealing With Donald Trump's Win

Clue: it appears a lot of them aren't taking the news well.

Out of all the groups in America stunned by the election of Donald Trump as president, it would appear that students are taking the news especially badly.

Lots of teachers have been bringing their dogs to school for students to cuddle.

Many schools and universities have also offered counselling sessions and safe spaces to their students:

Some professors have cancelled classes altogether.

This teacher wrote an emotional letter to his students reminding them that they are the future of America.

In the letter to the ninth-grade pupils, the teacher wrote: “First of all, I’m sorry... I’m sorry that some of you had trouble sleeping last night and that some of you came to me this morning with tears in your eyes, unsure if you and your family belong in Trump’s America. I wish I could answer that question.”

But despite his obvious misery at the election result, the teacher was quick to remind students that they had the opportunity to change America.

“You can do it, I know you can,” he continued. “I can see it. I see the future in this room. I see scholars and graduates, I see doctors and teachers, I see Senators and Congressmen. Don’t believe the voices that call you by other names, ugly names. Prove those voices wrong.”

These students turned to sugar to get over their disappointment.

One economics professor made an exam optional after students told him they were in fear for their families following Trump’s win.

The unnamed Yale University lecturer said he had received “many heartfelt notes from students who are in shock over the election returns”.

The email to students continued: “The ones I find most upsetting are those who fear, rightly or wrongly, for their families.”

Rather than cancel the test, he made it optional so that those who had “sacrificed to prepare” would not lose out.

These high school pupils expressed themselves through art.

Finally, one sports coach offered her students solace in the form an adorable photo of her baby in a lion costume.

We are pretty sure it’s not the Jessica Day from New Girl, but you never know.
