The Labour leadership contenders came to blows in a hustings today as Owen Smith challenged Jeremy Corbyn to state the number of seats Labour need to win back power.
Corbyn answered that they needed 90, but Smith said the number was 106.
“I don’t think you know how many seats we need to win in order to beat the Tories. I suspect you don’t know what percentage of seats we need to form a Labour government”, Smith said.
“You know as well as I do we need to win at least 90”, Corbyn answered.
Smith responded: “No we don’t we need to win 106”.
“I worry that the leader of the Labour party doesn’t know how many seats we need to beat the Tories”.
