The Syrian conflict could be the largest humanitarian crisis since World War II, leaving millions homeless and hundreds of thousands desperately seeking safety in neighbouring countries and Europe. "The European Union is challenged as never before," EP President Martin Schulz told EU leaders at a migration summit in Malta on 12 November. "This refugee and migration crisis will not go if we turn our heads away. It will only get worse."
With no end to the war in sight, millions of Syrians have become refugees and are in dire need of assistance. Although the vast majority are still living within Syria itself and in neighbouring countries, hundreds of thousands are making their way to Europe, in appalling conditions and with great loss of life while governments here are still scrambling to handle the situation. Check out our updated infographic for the latest figures of the Syrian refugee crisis in Europe.
