An Open Letter To Jeremy Corbyn

I also want to bring the point home by saying something that applies to me and I'm certain applies to hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of other people in the UK. You, Jeremy Corbyn, have given me a reason to believe again. Real, true, political hope for the first time in my entire adult life... and it feels pretty amazing, so thank-you.

Dear Jeremy,

I hope this finds you well and in deservedly good spirits.

I need to start by saying thanks, not only for the last few months and weeks, in which you've campaigned with dignity and resolve, in spite of unprecedented levels of bias from our unashamedly right-wing media, but also for the last few decades of well-intentioned service to this wonderful (if a little lost) country of ours, and the people in it.

I also want to bring the point home by saying something that applies to me and I'm certain applies to hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of other people in the UK...

You, Jeremy Corbyn, have given me a reason to believe again. Real, true, political hope for the first time in my entire adult life... and it feels pretty amazing, so thank-you.

As I write this, the Tories are announcing a coalition with the the anti-gay, anti-abortion folks in the DUP, but I'm entirely unmoved. We all knew how it would go down, ever since the day Liar Liar (Theresa) called a snap-election in the first place, but it doesn't matter. For now at least, I'm consumed with hope for the future and a true belief that fairness will prevail - and I know I'm not alone in that.

The thing is, I'm wondering if any of this would have happened if it wasn't for you, and I feel like it's doubtful. Imagine if, say, Chuka Umanna was Labour leader. We'd have been subjected to another uninspiring campaign between two self-serving careerists and the British electorate would be more disillusioned than ever before. It worries me.

What I'm saying is, Jeremy, we need you to stick around for a while and give this another crack in 2022 - not just because I'm excited for what we can all achieve, but also because I'm shit-scared that the powers-that-be will conspire to reverse all the good work you've done and find another wolf in sheep's clothing to fly the red flag

Owen Jones said in a recent interview that he thinks you'd be the sort of person to lie awake at night, wondering what you could possibly do to make this country better for the lives of those in it, and I agree with him, which is why I'm writing to ask that you carry on.

If you can't or won't, then that's okay... but I'll only be fine with that if you are.

Thanks for existing - and keep up the great work,

Frank x
