Gary Spedding is currently studying an undergraduate degree in Zoology at Queen's University Belfast.

Despite having a great love for the natural world and its wildlife, Gary is not stereotypically characteristic of an aspiring Zoologist due to his immersion in Human Rights and Politics.

An active member of the student movement, Gary founded his university's Palestine Solidarity Society as well as being a committed member of QUB's students' union.

In addition to being engaged in local issues, Gary also contributes heavily to LGBT rights, Anti-Human trafficking advocacy and Amnesty International.

Upon seeing the success of Marriage Equality campaigners in Scotland, he also placed efforts into forming the Equal Marriage Northern Ireland campaign with a diverse range of LGBT-involved groups in Northern Ireland.

Blogs mostly cover the continued struggle of the LGBT community in Northern Ireland.

Mainstream discourse, despite international backlash, fails to tackle the deplorable culture of victim-blaming in our society today. Neglecting the urgency of genuinely tackling violence against women, sexual violence and rape culture has left women feeling ashamed, traumatised and responsible for being subjected to brutal sexual attacks.

Campaigns focused on...

Every once in a while in this life we encounter persons who have extraordinarily empowering characteristics, such people show true leadership, conviction of character and a certain dedication to the individual and collective rights of others which I believe should be welcomed in today's society with open arms. Unfortunately more...

A campaign aimed at supporting London Metropolitan University and international students was recently launched by the National Union of Students, a campaign in which I happily contributed, writing emails to the Members of Parliament who hold constituencies in Northern Ireland.
