As we take our first steps into 2014 many people, myself included, have already started to plan our summer holidays. The unrelenting, dark, cold days of winter have begun to take their toll, and so we look towards the summer as a beacon of hope, comfort and happiness. This is why the travel industry thrives during this time of year. Adverts flood the media reminding us of greener, warmer, pastures and seduced by the idea of that perfect holiday, we begin to plan our escape; and what better way to escape than aboard a luxury cruise ship!

So to inspire, motivate and re-install some hope, I have compiled this list of the Top Cruise Destinations of 2014. Based on last year's sales, these are the destinations that you, the people, are most attracted to; and it's easy to see why!

The Caribbean

Over the past decade the Caribbean has remained one of the most popular cruise destinations amongst new and seasoned cruisers. When you close your eyes and day dream of paradise, it is undoubtedly the Caribbean that you escape to. White sand beaches, turquoise waters and some of the friendliest locals you will ever encounter are what make the Caribbean such a special place. There really is no other destination like it!

Hawaii

Aloha! When it comes to relaxation the people of Hawaii are pioneers. Famed for their generosity and hospitality towards all, the people of Hawaii will ensure that you forget all of life's troubles. Laze on the beach under a sun soaked palm tree and enjoy a refreshingly cool coconut cocktail, or take to your feet to explore each island and its breath taking scenery. No matter how you choose to spend your days, you will find peace and happiness in this paradise.

The Mediterranean

Along with the Caribbean, the Mediterranean has remained one of the most popular cruise destinations of the past decade. A Mediterranean Cruise will provide you the opportunity to visit many top European holiday destinations including the French Riviera, Spain, Italy, Greece and Turkey. The Mediterranean is all about slow paced living and indulgence; scorching sun, crystal clear waters, good food, good drink and taking each day as it comes.

Mexico

For true sun seekers look no further than Mexico. This vibrant country has grown in popularity amongst cruisers, with many taking advantage of the slightly cooler temperatures and affordability of off-peak cruise deals. Mexico is a country that enjoys a celebration, with carnivals and festivals dotted throughout the year. Whether you join in with the festivities or choose to relax on one of its many sprawling beaches, you are guaranteed one thing in Mexico; a good time!

Alaska

Looking for more of an adventure? Want to get up and close to Mother Nature in all her splendour? Then you need to embark on a cruise of Alaska. This really is a once in a lifetime cruise holiday, guaranteed to leave you with many wondrous memories. Rolling snow-capped mountains, magnificent glaciers, salmon filled flowing rivers and the chance to see some of nature's most elusive animals, such as bears and whales, in their natural habitats. You certainly won't run out of things to see as your ship winds its way through this truly magical setting.
