James is a Labour Party and trade union member and activist. He has
campaigned independently working with other parties and runs the Save
EMA campaign; successfully forcing a Government u-turn on the issue of
the education maintenance allowance, winning financial support for a
quarter of a million of the poorest teenagers in England.

James also campaigns within the Labour party on various issues and
runs the Labour Diversity Fund, to help widen access to Parliament for
ordinary Labour party members from low incomes and unrepresented
groups.

He currently works at Westminster as a Researcher for a Labour MP and
has previously worked in the Scottish Parliament for a Labour MSP.

He has written for an array of publications such as the Guardian and
Tribune Magazine as well as online platforms from Labourlist and
Labour Uncut to Left Foot Forward Liberal Conspiracy and the News
Statesman.

He writes here in a personal capacity.
