Premier League clubs have money to burn after a new television deal worth in excess of £5billion kicked in this summer, with clubs up and down the country seemingly breaking their transfer records at will.

No other league in the world can match England's top flight for financial incentive and eight clubs have already set new highs in the market with a fortnight of trading still to go.

8. Burnley - Steven Defour

Once linked with Manchester United, Belgian midfielder Steven Defour became the most expensive player in Burnley's history when he joined from Anderlecht in a £7.5million deal.

The Clarets have been fairly reserved in the transfer market since returning to the Premier League, especially considering how other newly promoted sides have spent on new players in the last few seasons.

A lack of depth and overall quality has been what has cost Burnley in the past.

7. Watford - Isaac Success

Having been linked with Isaac Success for a number of months, Watford finally paid Granada a club record £12.5million in July to secure the young Nigerian's services ahead of what will be a tough second season in the top flight.

Success by name, success by nature? The 20-year-old has been brought in to provide back up and important competition to premier forward pairing Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo.

The fee surpasses the previous records paid for Adalberto Penaranda, currently on loan at Udinese after spending last season with Pozzo-owned Granada, and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

6. Crystal Palace - Andros Townsend

Crystal Palace set a new club record last summer when Yohan Cabaye arrived from Paris Saint-Germain for £10million, the first time the Eagles had paid eight figures for a player. That record was then taken up to £13million to bring Andros Townsend from Newcastle.

The record could have been smashed again had Michy Batshuayi joined from Marseille after the French club accepted a Palace offer in excess of £30million, before the player ultimately chose to sign with Chelsea instead.

There is still yet time for it go again though, with the club keen to land Christian Benteke, valued at £30million by Liverpool.

5. Bournemouth - Jordon Ibe

Jordon Ibe's record transfer from Liverpool to Bournemouth shows just how far the market has travelled over the last 20 years. The £15million that the Cherries spent on the young winger would have bought Alan Shearer for a world record price in 1996.

For Ibe, the move south is an opportunity to resurrect his career and play regular football after his development stalled at Anfield last season. He was billed as a natural successor to Raheem Sterling, but failed to establish himself and now must justify his reputation.

4. Swansea City - Borja Baston

It's been all change up front for Swansea since the end of last season. Alberto Paloschi, Bafetimbi Gomis and Andre Ayew have left, while Eder's loan to Lille was made permanent. World Cup winner Fernando Llorente arrived from Sevilla, and the Welsh club have since put up more than £15million to land Atletico Madrid forward Borja Baston.

The Madrid-born striker was a hit in La Liga with lowly Eibar during a loan spell in 2015/16, netting 18 times, only one fewer than Gareth Bale and just four less than Antoine Griezmann.

3. Leicester City - Nampalys Mendy; Ahmed Musa

In a bid to strengthen their Premier League title winning squad, Leicester have broken their club transfer record not once but twice so far this summer, adding Nampalys Mendy and later Ahmed Musa to the ranks for a combined £30million.

The diminutive midfielder Mendy, considered a like for like replacement for N'Golo Kante, joined from Nice for £13million at the start of July.

Musa, having made his name in Europe with CSKA Moscow, arrived less than a week later for over £16million and quickly impressed with two goals in a high profile friendly against Barcelona. His pace could be a real danger to most Premier League teams.

2. West Ham United - Andre Ayew

West Ham's determination to make a splash in the transfer market this summer led them to spend just over £20million on Swansea forward Andre Ayew, a real Premier League hit after his free transfer from Marseille only last year.

Prior to that, the Hammers' record buy had been Andy Carroll, who many now hope will quickly strike up a good partnership with Ayew, the type of which the Ghanaian international appeared to have with Bafetimbi Gomis in south Wales in the early weeks of last season.

1. Manchester United - Paul Pogba

Manchester United's £89million capture of Paul Pogba saw the return of a player that the Old Trafford club let go for just a negligible compensation fee four years ago. But after becoming one of the biggest footballing names on the planet, the Frenchman believes he has unfinished business to complete in England.

The move not only smashed United's own previous transfer record of £59.7million, the price that brought Angel Di Maria to the Premier League in 2014, but also the world transfer record - only the second time since 1952 that an English club has made such a statement.

With more money flowing in the Premier League than ever before, even more club record buys could happen before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

If Chelsea want Romelu Lukaku from Everton, it would shatter their £50million record. Arsenal could well end up paying more than the £42.5million that bought Mesut Ozil if they are indeed serious about Alexandre Lacazette, while West Brom appear the club most likely to land Islam Slimani in what would be another record for them 12 months on from Salomon Rondon.
