Five Most Injury Prone Premier League Sides

Injuries are, unfortunately, a part of the beautiful game, and can influence a team's season far more than fans would like. Some sides know more about this than others, seeing their players fall victim to the dreaded niggle or even worse, a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Injuries are, unfortunately, a part of the beautiful game, and can influence a team's season far more than fans would like.

Some sides know more about this than others, seeing their players fall victim to the dreaded niggle or even worse, a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Here are five Premier League teams who know a thing or two about injuries.

5. Newcastle United

Newcastle United are no strangers to an injury or two, usually to key men.

In his first season at the club, Hatem Ben Arfa broke both his tibia and fibula against Manchester City, missing over a year of football.

Luck has been rather Krul to United's goalkeeper, Tim, and he missed six months when he first joined the club. He also dislocated his shoulder in the 2012-13 season and damaged his ankle and elbow during his spell at the Magpies.

Even now Newcastle are struggling with injuries, as Papiss Cisse and Siem de Jong are out of action.

The Tyneside club's players spent 1303 days collectively watching on from the stands last season.

4. Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs may not be the first team you think of when considering injuries, unless of course you are a fan. However, in recent years, they have lost a number of new signings to injury, early on in their Tottenham careers.

Christian Eriksen started his first season in North London one month late due to injury.

It took Erik Lamela almost 4 months to make his first Premier League start due to a number of problems regarding fitness, and he is only just establishing himself in the Spurs side.

Emmanuel Adebayor and Paulinho also spent time on the sidelines last season, testing the depth and quality of their squad.

Spurs were missing players for a collective 1441 days last season.

3. West Ham United

West Ham United's injury problems can be summed up by one player, Andy Carroll.

Their big money signing of last season has spent much of his time at the club on crutches, battling an ongoing heel problem.

The Hammers have also lost the likes of Joey O'Brien, James Tomkins, Ricardo Vaz Te, Matt Jarvis, Mo Diame and more (believe it or not), over the past season or two.

Carroll is yet to feature for Sam Allardyce's side this season again, and probably won't this side of Christmas.

If West Ham are to improve on last season's finish, they will have to hope that their usual injuries don't return.

2. Manchester United

Manchester United are second in this countdown as their injuries seem to affect their key men, time and time again.

Over the past few seasons we have seen the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and former skipper, Nemanja Vidic, struck down by serious injuries.

Unfortunately for United, their squad isn't exactly the strongest, or at least it hasn't been since their big money buys this summer. Therefore, cover for these key men has not been up to scratch.

To add insult to injury, pun intended, they have brought in an incredibly injury prone Falcao, and if history repeats itself, expect to see him in plaster some time soon.

1. Arsenal

Abou Diaby personifies Arsenal's injury problems, as he was always supposed to be fantastic, but instead struggled due to problem after problem.

The Gunners' players spent a collective 1716 days on the sidelines last season, and things seem to have repeated themselves in the years before.

Many have questioned Arsenal's medical staff and whether they're up to the job (or are Spurs fans).

However, it may just be a spot of bad luck, which must run out at some point.

If Arsene Wenger's men can stay injury free this season, bar Giroud and Walcott who are already missing, they could mount a serious title challenge. If not, at least they'll have a valid excuse. Again.
