Six Players Premier League Sides Shouldn't Rush to Sign Despite Having a Good World Cup

Every four years when the World Cup comes along, it must feel like a brand new shop opening for Premier League managers, filled with a number of new products on shiny displays. Is it wise, however, to judge a player solely on their World Cup performances? Here are six players who, despite having a decent individual World Cup, shouldn't be at the top of the Premier League manager's wish list just yet.

6. Jermaine Jones

Jermaine Jones and the entire USA side took the World Cup by storm, winning the hearts of fans who had seen their teams eliminated.

Jones was fantastic for his side and scored a magnificent goal against Portugal.

However, he should not be a target for Premier League managers. The midfielder did well whilst on loan at Blackburn in 2011, but picking up eight yellow cards in 15 games and failing to score a goal isn't exactly fantastic.

Despite shining this summer, the 32-year-old should be avoided as it is almost certainly too late to get the best out of him.

5. Divock Origi

Origi caught the eye of many in Brazil this summer, scoring a goal against Russia two minutes from time, winning them the game.

At only 19 years old, he is being touted as a possible replacement for Luis Suarez at Liverpool. Ridiculous, I know.

He has only scored seven goals in his club career at Lille. It is possible to forgive him for not having hundreds of goals at such a young age, but seven isn't exactly good enough to warrant a move to Liverpool.

He is supposedly in talks with the Reds over a £9.8million move, an extraordinary fee considering how little we actually know about him.

Maybe he's one for the future, but probably not worth trying to snap him up immediately.

4. Ricardo Rodriguez

Another player being chased by the trigger happy Liverpool.

Rodriguez played very well in one of Switzerland's games this World Cup, assisting two goals and that seems to have been enough for the Reds to make a move.

It doesn't take a footballing genius to see that Liverpool are seriously lacking in the left-back department - John Flanagan and Jose Enrique are more suitable for a mid to lower table team.

But moving for a young and relatively unproven left-back after quickly signing a number of other players doesn't exactly shout "we know what we're doing".

3. Guillermo Ochoa

Another controversial inclusion considering his magnificent World Cup.

Premier League managers should not rush to sign Guillermo Ochoa despite his World Cup performances, because the Premier League is such a dramatic step-up.

Ochoa is without a club at the moment, so it is understandable that a number of teams want him as he requires no transfer fee.

But even so, we have witnessed first hand just how badly goalkeepers struggle when they move to England.

David De Gea had a rather embarrassing first season and Hugo Lloris made a number of blunders also.

Today, they are both established Premier League goalkeepers and managers should by no means ignore Ochoa, but the standard of goalkeeping in the top flight of English football is already high.

No team in the league needs to rush to secure Ochoa's signature and no team should. If he was really that good, why was his name not mentioned prior to Brazil?

2. Joel Campbell

Joel Campbell epitomised Costa Rica this summer and was a surprise star.

He is on the books at Arsenal, but has never worn the famous red and white strip. Instead, he has been on loan for the past three seasons.

A number of Premier League clubs were rumoured to be considering a move for Campbell, but due to Arsene Wenger's usually sterling calls regarding young players, it seems that he knows what he is talking about when saying Campbell is not ready for the top flight.

Wenger has instead signed Alexis Sanchez as a second attacking option and Joel Campbell, it appears, will have to wait for his Premier League debut.

Other managers should listen to Wenger and not rush to prise him away from North London.

1. Enner Valencia

It may be too little too late for this star, but Premier League managers, mainly Sam Allardyce, should not rush to bring the Ecuadorian forward to England.

The Hammers are reportedly close to signing Valencia for around £15million, although this will almost certainly not be all up front.

West Ham have supposedly been scouting Valencia for six months, but news of their interest has only surfaced following his three goals in three games at the World Cup. Interesting.

Valencia is clearly a lad with talent, but if he is to move to the Premier League, it should be once he has proven himself further at club level and not just had one good season at a Mexican club.

Either that or lower the price tag, as even going on his World Cup performances £15million seems a lot, up front or not and that is coming from a West Ham fan.
