Ken Clarke
Kenneth Clarke was appointed as Minister without Portfolio in September 2012, having previously served in the Coalition Government as Lord Chancellor and Justice Secretary.

He was born in 1940 and educated at Nottingham High School and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge.

He is a barrister-at-law, having been called to the Bar by Gray's Inn in 1963 and becoming QC in 1980.

He has served in the Governments of four Prime Ministers, including as Chancellor, Home Secretary, Health Secretary and Education Secretary. In Opposition he served as shadow Business Secretary.

He is married with one son and one daughter.

Wednesday sees the formal dispatch from the House of Lords of what the wilder critics have named my "Secret Courts Bill". The Bill's passage has so far aroused great passion and debate - as any Bill which seeks to deliver the twin imperatives of justice and security must always do....
