Kerry McCarthy was elected MP for Bristol East in 2005 and re-elected in 2010. She is currently Shadow Economic to the Treasury, and has previously served as Shadow Minister for Disabilities, and, prior to the 2010 election, as a Government Whip, and Parliamentary Private Secretary to Douglas Alexander, the International Development Secretary, and Rosie Winterton, Minister for Health. She also spent two years as a member of the Treasury Select Committee. She is Vice-Chair of the All-Party Group for Music, and recently introduced a Ten Minute Rule Bill in the Commons on support for Kinship Carers. She also campaigns on animal welfare issues, as the first vegan MP in parliament (there are now three). Her other political interests, apart from her economic brief, include international development, the environment, education and transport.
