Lloyd has worked as a journalist in the UK and Europe, Australia, the Middle East and Cuba, writing about current affairs, film and music.
Graduating from the University of Edinburgh in 1997 with an MA (hons) in English Literature, Lloyd made his first foray into journalism during a brief stay in Copenhagen over a girl, where he started writing for the Danish gender issues web-magazine Kvinfo. Moving to Cuba in 1998, initially to study Spanish at Havana University, he fell into the Cuban music scene, ended up working as a percussionist and lived for a time with members of the Buena Vista Social Club.

Lloyd moved to London in 2000 where he was employed on the Independent’s foreign desk. For much of the past decade, he has worked freelance in the Middle East, Spain and the UK, writing for, amongst others, the Lebanon Daily Star, El País, the Sydney Sun-Herald, Time Out Guides and the Daily Mail. He also contributes a film review column to the website bristol247.com.

Of Anglo-Australian heritage but no fixed abode – hence the ‘Dapper Vagabond’ moniker – Lloyd’s interests stretch from international politics, economics and human rights to Afro-Latin percussion and the Blues. He is now on the road in South America.
